Mark Saturday, November 5th as the date when we will all gather at the Shell Club warehouse to get it organized for the upcoming Shell Show season. Plan on arriving about 9:30 AM and for those not familiar as to the location of the warehouse in Pompano please call Nancy Galdo at 305-531-0036 for directions. Bring some water and snacks if you desire. We will go out to lunch after we have finished. The more there are the faster we will get done!

NOAA CORAL REEF CONSERVATION LOOKING FOR SUPPORT STAFF
The NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program is hiring five (5) Regional Management Support staff for one-year positions in American Samoa, Florida, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Puerto Rico. While these are not fellowship appointments, the work assignment for these positions might be of interest to those looking for opportunities to work in coral reef areas. Each position has a different set of responsibilities, though all relate to coral reef conservation.

JERSEY CAPE SHELL SHOW
The Jersey Cape Shell Club will have its 37th annual shell show August 19-21 at The Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, and everyone is welcome to participate/attend. It will be held at The Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, Scientific and artistic entries are welcome
While I am it, my other home club, The Philadelphia Shell Club, will be having their show at an earlier date this year, October 1 and 2. For more information; www.phillyshellclub.org.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hello everyone!
I’d like to take this opportunity to say just a few things. First of all, a HUGE THANK YOU to Bob Pace for all of his hard work and dedication as our outgoing President. A special Thank You to Alice for her support too! Second, I want to tell you how much I am looking forward to the upcoming year. We have a wonderful organization that includes all levels of interest from beginning to more scientific collectors as well as lots of arts & craft folks. There is something for everyone.
The Board (thank you all for continuing on in your positions from last year!) and I are very interested in hearing your comments and suggestions and look forward to working together to continue the growth of the Club. If you would like to volunteer to help with any aspect of the Club, please contact me or any Board member.
We will have lots of exciting activities this year beyond our monthly meetings, including a field trip to Sanibel Island to visit the Bailey Matthews Shell Museum, an overnight trip to Gainesville for a visit to the Florida Museum of Natural History which will include a behind the scenes tour with the curator, the annual collecting/picnic trip to the Keys as well as the Shell Show in January. As you can see, we will be very busy! I hope each one of you will become more involved in YOUR club!

NEW BOOK – SHELLS OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS

Finally after many years of hard work a new book is out. The new Hawaiian Marine shell book along with the Hawaiian Land Snail book is coming of the press’s this very moment. The new books will come as a set in a sleeve for both volumes. I have attached a brief forward from the Publisher showing a few details about the book. It will debut in Antwerp next month at the Antrwerp Shell Show. The Publisher is sending me books at the end of April. Anyone in the United States who wants a set can get one from me as soon as they arrive here in Hawaii. There may be places on the Mainland to get them but I am not sure. (MDM Books, see below) It may be less expensive to get a set locally near you than pay shipping from Hawaii. I have had the honor of assisting in the creation of this book. I know first hand the attention to detail that has gone into these books. I have seen it in finished form and it blows away anything on the market about Hawaiian shells or Land Snails. There are many new species and renamed shells in both books. Let me know if I can be of any help in getting a set.

GULF COAST SHELL CLUB SHOW
The Gulf Coast Shell Club is pleased to announce that after a gap of 9 years we are again holding a shell show. The dates are 25-26 June (Set up on the 24th). The venue is the Senior Center on Panama City Beach, a large spacious facility located in the center of a summer tourist destination. Here we are into shell show season so I thought I would remind you all about the 64th Annual St. Petersburg Shell Club Show “Treasures of the Gulf and Beyond” Feb. 26-27, at the Seminole Recreation Center, 9100 113th Street North, Seminole, FL.
The show opens 9am-6pm Saturday, and 10am-5pm Sunday. Admission is a very reasonable $3 for non St. Pete members. We have great exhibits lined up, 9 dealers, a Kids Korner, and door prizes.
